Presentation of the exhibition
The Saudi Water Treatment Exhibition (SWE), organized by DMG Group, is the only trade show in Saudi Arabia focused on the planning and construction of water infrastructure.
The Saudi Water Treatment Exhibition 2024 has an exhibition area of 25,000 square meters, with the participation of more than 400 exhibitors from 35 countries and more than 17,000 professional visitors. The 10 largest water treatment companies in the world are present. His Highness Prince Faisal bin Abdulaziz bin Ayyaf, Mayor of Riyadh and Chairman of the RIPC Board of Directors, attended the opening ceremony. More than 30 Chinese companies are participating in this exhibition. The effect of the exhibition has been recognized by companies, and some companies have made direct reservations for the next on-site exhibition.
The Saudi Water Treatment Industry Expo 2025 will be held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center from September 8 to 10. It will attract 500 exhibitors from 40 countries, with more than 20,000 visitors on site and an exhibition area of more than 10,000 people. 25,000 square meters. Dozens of speeches will also be held on site to share industry trends and future development projects. During the same period of the exhibition, the Saudi Construction Materials and Infrastructure Exhibition SIE and the Saudi Smart Cities Exhibition will also be held.

market opportunity
Saudi Arabia is the largest country in the Middle East. There are no rivers on its territory. Most desert areas do not rain all year round and are severely lacking in water. However, the daily per capita water consumption in Saudi Arabia is almost twice the daily per capita water consumption globally. According to Water World magazine, Saudi Arabia’s per capita daily water consumption ranks third in the world after the United States and Canada.
In order to meet the needs of Saudi Arabia’s rapidly growing population and support its booming industrial sector, the Saudi government will continue to invest heavily in the field of seawater desalination and water treatment, which will bring many opportunities to the companies concerned. .
Under Vision 2030, the water sector is one of Saudi Arabia’s key strategic areas of development. Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest desalination market, with a desalination production capacity of nearly 8 million m³/day, accounting for more than 20% of the world’s total desalination production capacity, ranking first world rank. Saudi Arabia is the world’s largest country without surface runoff and one of the countries with the highest per capita consumption of fresh water in the world. Therefore, there is a huge demand for desalinated seawater. In 2019, Saudi Arabia’s per capita fresh water consumption was 263 liters/person/day, and the total fresh water consumption demand exceeded 8 million m³ and is expected to exceed 1.23 million m³/ day by 2040. From 2022, the proportion of desalinated water in Saudi Arabia’s fresh water supply structure will be around 60%, followed by non-renewable groundwater resources. Based on the 2018 water supply structure, desalinated seawater accounts for 59% and non-renewable groundwater supply for 35%. By 2030, Saudi Arabia plans to increase the proportion of desalinated seawater supply to 90% and reduce the proportion of non-renewable groundwater supply to less than 10%. Based on basic calculations, the new desalination capacity will be 4.5 million m³/day by 2030.

In 2023, the Saudi National Water Company (NWC) officially announced a strategic development plan to launch 12 desalination projects with a total investment of nearly 5 billion Saudi Riyals (approximately 1.3 billion US dollars). The locations of the planned projects are mainly located in Saudi Arabia. The Eastern Province covers the central areas of Dammam, Khobar, Jubail, Hassa and Qatif. In addition, the planned implementation projects also include 40 large-scale storage tank projects (11 planned storage tank projects have been completed, located in Dammam city, with a water storage capacity of 530 000 cubic meters), with a total storage capacity of up to 16 million cubic meters, including several water supply reservoirs, pumping stations and nearly 500 kilometers of water projects. construction of water pipes. The pipeline network will ensure 24/7 water supply to major cities in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. This plan constitutes an important element of Saudi Arabia’s development strategy in the water sector.
The Saudi Water Authority (SWA) has a production capacity of 7.5 million cubic meters per day, and the 2030 target is to produce 11.5 million cubic meters per day using seawater and wastewater. underground. In 2024, the Saudi Water Authority’s desalination volume will account for 22% of the total global desalination production.
The Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has allocated $80 billion for water-related projects over the next few years. According to estimates by professional organizations, the Saudi water reuse market is worth $4.69 billion, making it the third largest reuse market in the world, just behind China and the United States.
