Venue News: Mandalay Bay Unveils $100 Million Deal

The Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino completed a $100 million overhaul of its 2.1 million square feet Mandalay Bay Convention Centerdesigned to meet the needs and preferences of modern meetings and events. New and enhanced features include advanced technology infrastructure, additional digital signage and a fresh, vibrant design that complements the tropical ambiance of the 3,211-room Strip resort.

“Meetings and conventions play a vital role in the success of Las Vegas, and the revitalization of the Mandalay Bay Convention Center demonstrates our commitment to this vital part of our city’s foundation,” said Ernest Stovall, vice president of hotel sales for Mandalay Bay. “Our goal is to evolve alongside the meetings industry to meet the needs of the modern consumer. Drawing on valuable insights from our Customer Advisory Board, we have designed a space at Mandalay Bay that sets a new standard of excellence and reflects the future of modern meetings, events and trade shows.”

With the remodel unveiled in phases over the past two and a half years, the venue has remained open and fully operational throughout the project, successfully hosting some of the most prestigious corporate events and trade shows in the United States, including HD Expo + Conference, IMEX America; Western Veterinary Medicine Annual Conference (WVC); and Let’s talk about the Printemps boutiquethe latter having been held from March 24 to 27.

“We enjoyed hosting our event in the newly renovated convention center, utilizing features like new digital signage and other upgraded amenities,” said Sophie Wawro, Global President of ShopTalk. “Aside from the fantastic convention space, we love hosting our events at Mandalay Bay because of the great team and the large capacity of the facility that we can utilize, such as restaurants, rooms and even the beach.”

Improved Technology Upgrades

To ensure seamless communication for meetings and trade show groups, the facility has implemented cutting-edge technology upgrades, including installing Cat6A Ethernet cabling throughout the venue that doubles the data transmission rate, enabling speeds up to 9,400 percent faster, according to Mandalay Bay officials.

The convention center also features 11 dynamic digital walls, spanning up to 24 x 13 feet, strategically positioned for brand placements, sponsorships and targeted event messaging, while 20 55-inch dual-sided mobile flexible display units make it easy for attendees to navigate to meeting rooms and events.

In addition, radio frequency identification (RFID locks were installed on all meeting room doors and over 200 motion detection cameras were placed throughout the space.

A bright and refreshing atmosphere

Designed by MGM Resorts International Design Group in collaboration with Dezmotif Studios, the resort features a contemporary, refreshed design that incorporates a number of practical enhancements, including improved lighting, streamlined signage and inviting lounge areas. The new design also includes whitewashed walls and ceilings adorned with bold floral motifs in cerulean and coral tones, complemented by warm walnut accent walls.

In addition to the overhaul of all pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and ballrooms, the complex’s 1 million square feet of exhibit space has been rejuvenated with new paint, covered pillars and relocated strobe lights.

As part of MGM Resorts’ commitment to promoting diverse and underrepresented artists within its corporate art program, the venue is now adorned with new works by Thandiwe Muriu and Sarah Anne Johnson, among other artists.

In addition to the convention center, Mandalay Bay has enhanced its integrated resort experience with a series of dynamic upgrades and new venues designed to further enhance the attendee and exhibitor experience while providing everything planners need to facilitate successful events under one roof.

Developments include the recent renovation of all 424 guest rooms and suites at Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas (with over 38,000 square feet of meeting and event space); restaurant openings including Michael Mina’s Orla and Wolfgang Puck’s Caramá; and the upcoming debuts of Swingers, the upscale 21+ mini-golf and cocktail concept in London and New York, and Bob Marley Hope Road, an immersive experience paying tribute to the legendary Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter, both opening later this year.
