Trade show organizers report strong fourth-quarter and full-year 2022 results

CHICAGO — Major trade show organizers have released their fourthfourth quarter (Q4) and full-year 2022 financial results, with earnings reflecting a strong return to in-person events.

Emerald Holding, Inc.Emerald’s fourth quarter and full-year 2022 financial results showed an increase in revenue and net income compared to 2021, and the company expects even stronger earnings in 2023. Emerald reported revenue of $325.9 million, an increase of 124% compared to 2021, with an increase in events held in fiscal 2022, and it expects to generate more than $400 million in revenue in 2023. Emerald produced 124 trade shows and events throughout 2022.

“The emerald is full“Our 2022 results reflect the events industry’s continued strong recovery from the pandemic, reinforcing the immense value of in-person experiences,” said David Doft, Emerald’s CFO. “We successfully delivered 124 in-person events in 2022, nearly doubling our 2021 total of 63., and generated more than $56 million in adjusted EBITDA, well above expectations.”

Since the beginning of 2022, Emerald has acquired four companies, Advertising Week, Bulletin, Lodestone Events And Tasty Cuisine Food and Beverage Trade Showand launched four new brands in high-growth sectors to position itself for future growth.

“Importantly, Emerald’s strong exhibitor pre-booking trends, coupled with the significant increase in buyer participation we’ve seen since the New Year, are very encouraging and indicate significant growth potential in 2023,” Doft said. “Additionally, we believe that the easing of supply chain constraints, the reopening of international travel and the elimination of the COVID pandemic will help drive attendance and revenue growth in 2023 and beyond. As a result, Emerald expects to generate over $100 million in adjusted EBITDA in 2023, an increase of approximately 76% year-over-year; and over $400 million in revenue, an increase of approximately 23% year-over-year, further reinforcing our commitment to delivering growth, great value and return on investment to our attendees and exhibitors.”

Informa SA also announced strong 2022 earnings for Information markets, Informa Connect And Information technologyResults for 2022 amount to £2,262.4 million (2.8 billion dollars) in turnover, compared to £1,583.2 million ($1.96 billion) in 2021. Profits were also significantly higher, with profits of £451m in 2022 ($558.7 million) compared to £245.4m ($303.9 million) in 2021. These increases reflect underlying growth across all businesses, particularly in B2B markets, following the disruptions caused by the pandemic in 2021.

In addition, Informa has entered into an agreement with Charterhouse Capital Partners to acquire Tarsus earlier this month and expects a full comeback of the events industry in China in 2024.
