NEW YORK — What a difference a year makes! This time last year, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and record wildfires along the California coast and a record-breaking hurricane season, a team of business development strategists at Reed Exhibitions decided to launch a new brand: Natural Disaster & Emergency Management Expo (NDEM). The mission of their trade show and year-round digital platform was spot on: to help organizations gain knowledge, discover tools, and connect with professionals to ensure they are prepared for an uncertain future while maintaining operational continuity and ensuring public safety in an ever-changing world.

One year later, the inaugural NDEM Expo was held this week at the Javits Center in New York City, in conjunction with the International Security Conference & Exposition (ISC) East, with high-quality content courtesy of conference program partners Columbia University Earth Institute National Center for Disaster Preparedness (NCDP), Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), and SBP. Day one keynote speaker Ted Metellus, Vice President of Events and Race Director, and Todd Metro, TCS New York City Marathon Safety and Security Officer, shared their insights on managing safety and security operations for the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon, while day two keynote addresses were delivered by Craig Fugate and Pete Gaynor, both former FEMA administrators, Fugate under President Barack Obama and Gaynor under President Donald Trump. Gaynor also served as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security.
