The first stop of the LVCC loop is expected to be operational by the end

LAS VEGAS — The LVCC Loop, a series of tunnels connecting the Las Vegas Strip to the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), Harry Reid International Airport and other downtown locations, has completed the first link between the LVCC and Resorts World Las Vegas.

Since the Loop launched under the LVCC in January 2021, The Boring Company, the Elon Musk-founded company building the Loop, has been working to expand the underground tunnels to connect to more than 50 stations across the city.

The first phase of the expansion was to connect the Resorts World Las Vegas resort to the Strip. The project reached a major milestone with the opening of the tunnel to the hotel in February. Resorts World recently told the Nevada Gaming Commission that the tunnel could be operational by the end of April.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) also recently approved a Boring connection between the LVCC and Westgate Las Vegas that would intersect with the endpoint of the Resorts World tunnel. The station would be located near the north end of the Convention Center’s West Hall and would be extended south to intersect with the Convention Center Loop station near the south end of the West Hall.

According to The Boring Company, a fleet of self-driving Tesla Model 3, Model X and Model Y vehicles, capable of reaching speeds of 155 mph, are fully operational, allowing passengers to traverse the LVCC underground in less than two minutes. It would normally take more than 20 minutes to walk the same distance.

The Loop was designed to serve as an innovative, fun and fast transportation solution to move thousands of convention attendees around the 200-plus acre campus, with the potential for expansion in the near future to ease congestion in the Las Vegas resort corridor. “This marks a significant milestone in the future of transportation,” said Steve Hill, CEO and President of LVCVA. “Las Vegas is proud to be the first and only destination to offer an underground transportation solution to move attendees around our convention center.”

Organizations planning to host trade shows in Las Vegas, such as CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023, are eager to take advantage of this new mode of transportation. “AEM and our show committees of industry leaders are focused on taking advantage of everything that has changed in Las Vegas to deliver a premier event that features the latest innovations and best practices to help construction professionals take their businesses and careers to the next level,” said Dana Wuesthoff, CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023 Show Director. “Between the West Hall and Diamond Lot, which connect many of the booths to the rest of the show floor and serve as a connection to the Festival Lot, and the LVCC Loop, which provides an effortless route through the entire Las Vegas Convention Center, it will be easier for attendees to see everything they want to know once they arrive.”
