MCLEAN, Virginia — Hoteliers are typically on the other side of the planning process, but Hilton is lifting the lid on the latest addition to its EventReady playbook. Called “Diary of an Event Planner,” the new series offers a look at how Hilton is planning its first major in-person internal conference since 2019 at its newest property, Resorts World Las Vegas, in December 2021. The diary is written by Kelly Knowlen, Hilton’s executive director of special events and business engagement, and her team, who give readers a step-by-step, first-hand look at how they do it, including how they use the playbook to create a safe, engaging and responsible event from start to finish.
The conference — the Americas Commercial Conference 2021 — will bring together Hilton commercial leaders from marketing, sales, guest experience, commercial operations and multiple properties to learn how to continue leading recovery initiatives, fostering internal relationships and bringing back in-person travel and events.

The series begins with an entry dated March 1, the date the decision to hold the conference was made. Knowlen said in the post, “We have worked hard over the past year to help our guests plan safe, hybrid or in-person events using our Hilton EventReady resources. We have spent hours creating these resources to ensure guests feel confident and safe in their event planning efforts. Our team couldn’t be happier that this is finally possible.” OUR “We’re going back to producing world-class in-person events!”

Many trade show managers are also tasked with planning smaller meetings. “An Event Planner’s Diary” will be useful to them, as it will be to everyone else, as it contains many relevant lessons that apply to those planning any type of conference or trade show, including tips for finalizing contracts, navigating RFP processes, and achieving internal alignment before planning. Each entry includes professional advice, what the team learns along the way, and candid recommendations.
