The Taiwan Taipei Tourism Expo (ITF) is organized by the Taipei Foreign Trade Center. It is the most popular in the Asia-Pacific region and the largest professional tourism fair integrating exhibitions and sales in Taiwan.
Since the 1980s, Taiwanese authorities have gradually understood that the service sector, particularly tourism, would become the main source of economic growth. In 1981, tourism was included among nine “political priorities” for the first time. But manufacturing remains the focus. In 2004, tourism was officially identified as a key industry for development.
In 2008, under the leadership of Ma Ying-jeou’s government philosophy of “resuming cross-Strait consultations based on the 1992 Consensus” and prioritizing economic issues, July 4, 2008 became a historic day for trade between the two sides of the strait: 1. Weekend The first charter flight; 2. The “first batch” of mainland tourists visiting Taiwan. Taiwan’s tourism industry has also entered a new turning point. According to statistics, by the end of May 2009, Taiwan had welcomed 330,000 tourists to the mainland. At present, Taiwan’s “Executive Yuan” has listed “tourism and tourism” as one of the six emerging industries to be promoted as a priority, hoping that this will help Taiwan “develop domestic demand”.
