St. Petersburg Sailing and Yachting Show Attracts More and More Visitors

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida. – The 44th The annual St. Petersburg Sailing and Motorboat Show, organized by Progressive Insurance, saw growth of 30%, Informa Markets reports, drawing thousands of boating enthusiasts to the downtown St. Petersburg waterfront in January.

Andrew Doole, president of U.S. boat shows at Informa Markets, predicted that the combination of the Gulf Coast’s two major boat shows — Tampa and St. Petersburg — would provide the most comprehensive display of boats and marine products in the region.

“The reconfiguration of the show has allowed us to accommodate more boats on the water and on land. The feedback from exhibitors who have recorded significant sales has been phenomenal,” said Mr Doole.

He added that 200 exhibitors showcased new products launching several new Sunseeker, Jupiter, Grady-White and Regal boats, as well as the Prestige X70 – one of the largest boats on display this year – the Invincible 46′ catamaran and the World Cat 400DC-X.

“With a vibrant brokerage market, rising industry productivity and the wise decision to merge the two shows, it all presented boat buyers with a unique opportunity,” said Mary Strauss, Marketing Director of Galati Yacht Sales. “Even with minor weather challenges, the team saw promising crowds looking to buy. Our team sold several pre-owned models and one new model, with more prospects still under review. Great job by Informa for a well-planned event.”

Chris Spindler, vice president of sales and marketing for Quality Boats, agrees. “The show was more intense and well attended this year. We were thrilled to have it this year and last year in January. People were packed. Even though it was cold on Saturday and Sunday, the docks were packed. It was great to see.”

Donny Testa, sales director for Black Label Marine, said this year’s show was “certainly a historic event.”

“The venue was ideal for exhibitors and spectators. Our exhibits, both on water and on land, made it easy for us to provide our customers with a complete evaluation of the boats they were considering. Whether it was a Sea Fox, a Caymas or a Crownline, we had them ready for the crucial sea trial,” added Testa.
