CHICAGO — Raccoon Media Group acquired Capacity Expo — a series of seven shows across the United States focused on serving the disability community — allowing the company to double its event portfolio in its first year since being acquired by Cuil Bay Capital (CBC).
Abilities Expo attracts over 30,000 visitors each year, and this acquisition is just the beginning of the acquisition and launch announcements Raccoon Media Group expects in 2024.
“The Abilities portfolio is a fantastic business focused on mobility and supporting the disability community. It fits perfectly with our strategy to deliver events that are focused on healthy, active and sustainable markets,” said Mike Seaman, CEO of Raccoon Media Group. “This acquisition also supports our growth in the U.S., tripling the number of events we deliver there.”
This acquisition strengthens Raccoon’s position in the U.S. wellness and health market and adds Abilities Expo to its U.S. trade show portfolio that includes The Boston Outdoor Expo, The Boston Run Show and Snowbound Expo.

The first event to take place under Raccoon ownership, with retained staff and service providers, will be Abilities Expo Los Angeles, which will take place March 15-17, 2024. Other Abilities Expo locations include New York (May), Chicago (June), Houston (August), Phoenix (September), Fort Lauderdale (October) and Dallas (December).
Abilities Expo, led by industry veterans David Korse and Lew Shomer, was acquired from Questex in 2008. Shomer, Abilities CEO, will remain with the company to ensure a smooth transition.
CBC is an investment vehicle led by Chairman Doug Emslie, former CEO of Tarsus, which acquired Raccoon in September 2023 with the aim of diversifying it and expanding into B2B offerings.
