Presentation of the exhibition

Nigeria Power & Energy Exhibition: An emerging force in West Africa’s energy sector

Nigeria Energy, as a carefully created new power and energy exhibition in Nigeria, has become a sudden boom in West Africa. It keeps pace with the Middle East International Electricity, Lighting and New Energy Exhibition (MEE) and becomes another major energy industry event in West Africa.
Looking at the last Nigerian Power and Energy Fair, its scale was quite impressive. The total exhibition area reached 15,000 square meters, attracting 112 exhibitors. These companies come from all over the world, including China, South Korea, Japan, Italy, South Africa, Kenya, Dubai, Turkey, India and Taiwan. The exhibition was very popular, with no less than 6,300 exhibitors.
It is worth mentioning that as the sister exhibition of Middle East Electricity, the Nigeria Electric Power and Energy Exhibition has rich resources of buyers in relevant industrial fields and a vast market promotion network. With these unique advantages, Nigeria Energy Exhibition (Nigeria Energy) will undoubtedly build a professional, efficient and high-quality business platform with local characteristics for the strong development needs of Nigeria’s electric energy lighting market and in its surroundings. It not only provides exhibitors with ample space for business expansion, but also injects new vitality into the trade and development of the power and energy industry throughout West Africa.
The Nigeria Energy Show lets you win business in West Africa’s growing energy landscape!

Discover unprecedented opportunities with Nigerian energy companies under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Power, Nigeria. As West Africa’s premier event, Nigeria Energy facilitates connections between buyers and sellers in the emerging energy sector.

The Electric Power Market in Nigeria: Challenges and Opportunities Co-Exist

As the most populous country in Africa, Nigeria has a total population of 173 million people, accounting for 16% of Africa’s total population. At the same time, it is also the largest economy in Africa. Since 2016, its GDP has surpassed that of South Africa and ranked first in Africa, becoming the 26th largest economy in the world. Nigeria occupies an important position in the Economic Community of West African States, with its GDP accounting for more than 3/4 of the total GDP of the Community. It exerts a strong radiating influence on neighboring countries, such as Sudan, Libya, Algeria, Chad, Egypt, etc., as well as the whole of Africa. Population growth and economic strength have strongly supported the purchasing power and consumption capacity of Nigerian residents.

(1) Government planning and investments

According to the Nigerian “Leader” report, the Nigerian government has formulated an ambitious energy development plan and plans to establish 10,000 small power grids across the country by 2020, aiming to provide 3 million kilowatts of electricity to communities with insufficient electricity supply. The Nigerian Rural Electrification Agency (REA) plays a key role in this process. The head of the agency revealed that it was actively seeking $350 million in financing from the World Bank, specifically to promote the electrification process in rural areas of the country. Of this amount, $150 million will be devoted to small network projects. In addition, the REA is also actively seeking cooperation with the private sector. The potential market size for solar home systems (SHS) and mini-grid systems is estimated to be N9 billion.

(2) Situation of serious electricity shortage

Although the Nigerian government has been actively expanding into the electricity sector, the problem of electricity shortage remains very serious. Around a billion people worldwide suffer from electricity shortages, 60% of them in sub-Saharan Africa. In Nigeria, 80 million people face electricity shortages. Electricity shortage has become a major obstacle to Nigeria’s economic development. Problems such as lack of electricity, high electricity costs, and difficulties faced by ordinary citizens in using electricity have seriously limited local economic development and improvement of residents’ quality of life.

Contained market opportunities

(1) Export opportunities for electrical equipment

From another perspective, Nigeria’s numerous electricity supply problems have created excellent opportunities for China to export electrical equipment. The bottleneck in electricity supply has led the Nigerian government to strongly encourage domestic and foreign investments to enter the electricity sector in order to achieve the target of electricity supply of 10,000 Mw in 2010. This move will inevitably lead to the growth of large-scale import demand for electrical equipment and provide a large market space for relevant Chinese enterprises.

(2) Potential of small and medium-sized power generation equipment

Due to insufficient power supply, local residents, units and institutions rely heavily on small and medium power generation equipment to maintain lighting, production and household electricity. The current situation shows that small and medium power generation equipment still has huge market potential in Nigeria and is expected to become another important area for Chinese companies to explore the Nigerian market.
In summary, although the Nigerian electric power market faces many challenges, it also provides many business opportunities for Chinese power equipment enterprises, which are worthy of in-depth exploration and active development.
