ATLANTA — The two words on everyone’s mind right now are “supply chain,” and the supply chain community broke records when it came together last week for the MODEX 2022 trade show.
According to trade show producer Materials Handling Institute (MHI), more than 37,047 attendees met with more than 857 supply chain exhibitors across 405,000 square feet of exhibit space at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. That’s 20 percent more attendees than the last MODEX show in 2018, and the largest MODEX event to date for MHI. The direct economic impact on the Atlanta region is estimated at approximately $45 million.
MODEX, the largest international supply chain trade show held in North or South America, showcased cutting-edge digital supply chain technologies through 172 educational seminars and four keynote addresses, including robotics, artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, augmented reality, data analytics and the Internet of Things (IoT).

On March 28, Marriott’s Chief Global Operations Officer Erika Alexander spoke about Marriott’s efforts to anticipate tomorrow’s supply chain challenges and the leadership needed to attract top logistics talent. In his opening remarks, CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta discussed the impact of the pandemic and how to mitigate future health-related supply chain disruptions by emphasizing the importance of risk planning and preparedness. The other keynote speaker was former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal, who entertained the audience with stories from his career.
“The excitement at the show and educational events is a testament not only to the high demand for the latest solutions and technologies, but also to the overall strength of this industry,” said Daniel McKinnon, executive vice president of exhibitions at MHI. “Attendees representing Fortune 500 companies, top 100 retailers and consumer packaged goods companies brought large teams to MODEX to find the latest innovations and learn about key trends impacting supply chains. Additionally, MODEX offered a robust educational program on key trends and technologies in our industry, including many opportunities to renew existing business relationships and develop new ones in an interactive environment.”
In closing, McKinnon added, “MHI’s dedication to service and innovation provides our attendees and exhibitors with a reliable, engaging and fun business experience they can’t get anywhere else.”
The next MODEX trade show dedicated to supply chain experience will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center in 2024.
