LAS VEGAS — When Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino completes the recently announced renovation of its 2.1 million-square-foot convention center, attendees will experience a bright, fresh new look and trade show organizers will have a host of new technology options for their events.
MGM Resorts announced the $100 million renovation on Oct. 11 during IMEX America 2022 at the convention center.
The new design is a collaboration between MGM Resorts International Design Group and Las Vegas-based Dezmotif Studios. Highlights will include brighter lighting, simplified signage and comfortable seating areas for attendees. The remodel will complement Mandalay Bay’s tropical vibe, with whitewashed walls and ceilings and bold floral motifs, accented by walnut accent walls. As part of MGM Resorts’ commitment to providing a platform for diverse and underrepresented artists, the convention space will feature works by Thandiwe Muriu and Sarah Anne Johnson, among others.
In addition to renovating all pre-function spaces, meeting rooms and ballrooms, Mandalay Bay recently refreshed 1 million square feet of exhibit space with new paint and covered pillars.

Big changes are also planned on the technology front. Mandalay Bay recently installed new Cat6A Ethernet cables throughout the building, doubling the data transmission frequency and increasing speeds by 9,400 percent. The redevelopment will add 11 new dynamic digital walls measuring up to 24 x 13 feet, designed to promote sponsor branding. New 55-inch dual-sided mobile flexible displays are being installed, making it easier for attendees to navigate the meeting space. Show organizers will also find new RFID locks on all meeting room doors. 200 new motion-detecting cameras are also being installed throughout the center.
“With Mandalay Bay hosting many of the city’s most important trade shows each year, we “We recognized the need to modernize the space,” said Ernest Stovall, Mandalay Bay’s vice president of sales. “We listened to the feedback and the modernized space will exceed expectations in every way.”
The renovation is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The convention centre will remain open and fully operational throughout the renovation work, which is taking place in several phases.
