Exhibition Review: The International Engineering Expo 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, prepares engineering project opportunities in ASEAN, providing world-class cutting-edge technology and expertise. The exhibition is Thailand’s only and first “international engineering exhibition”, creating opportunities for the Thai engineering industry, promoting the development of world-class engineering and attracting increasing business investment from the ASEAN, which is geographically located in the strongest economic center in the world. landscape, home to multibillion-dollar megaprojects and industrial manufacturing relocations from around the world. With the constructive cooperation of the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT) and NCC under the patronage of His Majesty the King, the “International Engineering Expo 2024” will be held from July 24 to 26, 2024 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC), Bangkok, Thailand) was successfully held and an international engineering conference will also be organized to identify regional trends. The event welcomed more than 30,000 visitors from across the country and the ASEAN region and facilitated business transactions worth more than 1 billion baht.
Associate Professor Watcharin Kasaklak, Dean of the Thai Institute of Engineering under the patronage of HM the King, highlighted the importance of various government infrastructure development projects as important mechanisms to boost the country’s economic growth and improve the quality of life of the Thai people. The value of government construction in 2023 is expected to be between 8.4 billion and 8.5 billion baht, an increase of 2.5 to 3.5 percent from the previous year. The main driver in 2023 remains investment in large-scale public infrastructure projects and further development of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), including the U-Tapao Airport project, phase 3 of the port industrial site of Map Ta Phut and phase 3 of the port of Laem Chabang, in Thailand. -China High Speed Railway Project, Phase I and Southern Purple Line Project. These ongoing projects are expected to constitute approximately 65% of the investment capital, while the remaining 35% will be allocated to new projects starting in 2024. Notable private sector construction projects, such as renewable energy power plants, electric vehicle production facilities and 5G system infrastructure are also underway. Furthermore, growing business investment in ASEAN, which is geographically located at the center of the world’s most powerful economic landscape, has attracted a large number of large-scale projects and the relocation of industrial manufacturing bases worth billions dollars from all over the world.
Most of the project value lies in engineering works, which require intelligent engineering techniques, advanced machinery, construction equipment, as well as modern materials and innovative technologies to meet different needs. As projects become more complex, Thai engineers are challenged to harness technology to increase productivity. This includes the adoption of technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence, drones and adaptive autonomous robots, which not only improve efficiency but also solve ever-evolving engineering problems. Adopting these technologies and enabling a smooth transition to automation is essential for Thai engineers to remain competitive, requiring a comprehensive understanding of various sciences and knowledge to seize opportunities and contribute to the development of world-class engineering.
Somchit Piampremsuk, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2024 Bangkok International Electromechanical Exhibition in Thailand, revealed that engineering projects are one of the important mechanisms to promote national economic stability, especially engineering systems. infrastructure, digital management, energy management and production and smart buildings. Thailand has many large-scale engineering projects at the national and regional levels. Today, environmental sustainability and achieving zero pollution have become objectives just as important as economic development. As a signatory to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 26), Thailand has committed to achieving net zero global emissions by 2050, marking a major shift towards sustainable development since the era of the industrial revolution.
This year’s “International Engineering Expo” has the theme “Driving Sustainable Responses”. The event will feature sustainable engineering technologies and include a variety of activities such as lectures and workshops. These events are designed to integrate knowledge, stimulate discussion and actively promote the implementation and measurability of sustainability practices.
