Diversified Communications reduces its environmental impact

PORTLAND, Maine — Thanks to a new partnership with Global Experience Specialists (GES), Diversified communications Diversified is using Rewind Carpets for all of its 2023 shows. This partnership underscores Diversified’s commitment to producing more sustainable exhibits while keeping in mind the visitor and exhibitor experience at their shows.

Carpet at a trade show provides comfort, noise reduction, and appeal. If not properly recycled, it can also end up in a landfill, where it takes thousands of years to decompose, emitting harmful greenhouse gases in the process.

Each year, more than four billion pounds of carpet enters the solid waste stream in the United States, representing more than one percent by weight and about two percent by volume of all municipal solid waste, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

One company is tackling this problem — Rewind completely latex-free mat, made from a single raw material and therefore 100% sustainably recycled.

Diversified will be using the new sustainable mats at Accountex, SITS, DCW and GEO, all taking place this month. They will also be rolling out the product at Accountex Summit Manchester, Lunch, Commercial Kitchen, Casual Dining, London Design Fair and Coach & Bus later in the year.

Net-Zero Carbon Events: Trade Show Industry Update

Rewind carpets are a landfill-free alternative, with 55% less carbon emissions and 100% latex-free production. Additionally, they eliminate water from the manufacturing process, reducing the energy required for production by 85% compared to traditional event carpets. This is important because conventional carpet production requires a lot of resources, water, energy and raw materials. Traditional carpet manufacturing uses chemicals, including dyes, adhesives and stain repellents. These chemicals can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air.

It is also manufactured in a way that can be easily recycled and is lighter than traditional corduroy carpet, increasing delivery capacity and reducing transport emissions. In addition, Rewind has signed the Initiative for Net Zero Carbon Events and commits to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

“Carpet has played a big part in this conversation, and we are very aware of the trade-off between delivering a great experience and wanting to be a more sustainable events business,” said Helen Milton, Group Operations Director at Diversified Communications. “For us, removing something as important as carpet from our UK venues is not an option. We are pleased that GES have introduced us to Rewind, which has given us the alternative that will allow us to not compromise on the presentation of our events while supporting our commitment to making our events more sustainable for the future.”
