Market presentation:

Batam is known as the largest shipbuilding industry in Indonesia, with more than 100 shipbuilding companies and shipyards, and more than 500 related industries. In order to support the development of the country’s shipbuilding industry, the government has designated Batam as a free trade zone (FTZ), and local shipyards can enjoy discounts and exemptions from customs duties and value-added tax.

The Indonesian Ministry of Industry has formulated a plan for the development of the Indonesian shipbuilding industry for the period 2012-2025. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry values the shipping industry at $20 billion, and through the development of the National Ship Design and Engineering Center (PDRKN), the government will increase ship design and engineering capabilities to support this.

The Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) hopes to vigorously develop the maritime transport sector. The industry has a multiplier effect, stimulating growth in other sectors of the economy and creating jobs, the committee said. The government will also ensure and optimize the domestic usage market as a basis for the development of the maritime industry. In addition, cooperation with the maritime industry of other developed countries will be encouraged.
