Informa Markets’ fashion industry trade show duo takes on New York

NEW YORK — The fashion industry’s star duo COTERIE And MAGIC, produced by Information marketsattracted more than 1,000 exhibitors to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center — COTERIE with more than 800, and MAGIC with more than 300.

The biannual COTERIE New York trade show, the premier industry event for the contemporary and advanced contemporary womenswear market, concluded its three-day event on February 23. Overall, the show saw a 10% increase in on-site buyers from many of the most prestigious retailers, including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as KITH, Anthropologie, Fenwick and others. More than 30% of exhibiting brands were from outside the United States.

“The increase in buyers at the show can be attributed to several factors,” said Courtney Bradarich, vice president of COTERIE. “First, COTERIE a continuous evolution can be observed throughout the show, “From our new branding to our new merchandising presentation to the growing list of influential and key brands in the contemporary womenswear and advanced contemporary space. This season, we welcomed brands like Simon Miller, Jennifer Fisher Jewelry, Honor the Gift and Reike Nen, all heavyweights in the contemporary womenswear market. COTERIE also provides access to many brands that buyers can only find at COTERIE in the US. Finally, in-person events are no longer impacted by travel restrictions, both domestically and internationally.”

COTERIE is known for its Verified Sustainable program, a verification process that allows shoppers to easily identify sustainable brands. This year, certified brands saw a 20% increase in attendance. Two expert panel sessions focused on the industry’s environmental impact, and a panel on sustainability and technology brought together Teodora Nicolae, VP of Marketing at Informa Markets Fashion, along with Valentino Vettorri, Founder of Arcadia Earth, and Ricardo Pasarín Lainez, Co-Founder of Lyceum VR, to discuss innovative ways brands are reducing waste using the latest technology.

“We strive to plan at least six months in advance and find that brands are more comfortable committing early, so we’ve started offering multi-show deals with incentives for those who commit early,” Bradarich said.

Another highlight of the show was GALLERY, a new, purposefully merchandised space on the show floor showcasing newcomers and current designers, such as Dal the Label and Jason Wu Handbags. Strategically positioned next to GALLERY, EDIT featured established contemporary brands ranging from Woolrich to Momoni to Liviana Conti.

“COTERIE is known for housing time-honored classics that specific buyers seek, and our unique brand community brings that to the show,” said Bradarich. “Our goal is to continue to grow and enhance this show with a quality product selection and craftsmanship that the industry is eager to see.”

Held concurrently, MAGIC New York is the premier wholesale event for modern sportswear, youthful and contemporary fashion, with 80 brands exhibiting exclusively in New York. Established and popular brands exhibiting include Betsey Johnson, Chinese Laundry and Eileen Fisher. Over 100 new brands were presented, including Barefoot Dreams, MIA Shoes, Bebe and Sundays Soho.

The next MAGIC shows will take place at Music City Center in Nashville from April 27 to 28, 2023 and at the Las Vegas Convention Center From August 7 to 9, 2023.
