The globe zooms in on China as it eases COVID restrictions

China’s exhibition sector recovery strengthens

BEIJING — A vigorous and robust recovery is underway in China since the last restriction on its trade fair sector was lifted on March 15, when the government announced it would allow all categories of visas to be issued.

This is good news for Chinese salons, as well as venues such as the The new Shenyang World Expowhich was recently the site of the 24th Northeast China International Dental Equipment Exhibition and Oral Health Symposium (CNDE). The Shenyang EXPO has 40 events scheduled this year and expects a total attendance of more than 700,000 visitors.

Consumer exhibitions are also back, with the China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE) in April welcoming over 3,382 brands from 65 countries and regions to Haikou, Hainan Province. CICPE was the first large-scale live international exhibition since China reversed its COVID-19 stand. A total of 184 exhibitions were held in China from January to February this year, up 1.1 times from a year earlier, accounting for nearly 90% of the activity compared with the same period in 2019, according to the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China.

“It’s great to see the exhibition industry returning to normal in China,” said Michael Duck, President, UFO; Executive Vice President, Business Development at Information markets; And said Informa Group Executive Vice President of Business Development. “I have personally attended shows in recent weeks in Chengdu, Shenzhen and Hangzhou, and all have reached or are close to 2019 levels in terms of square metres sold. Buyer traffic is also good; however, international buyers and exhibitors have not yet reached their 2019 levels due to reduced flights into China. This is also the case in many countries, due to reduced availability of pilots and crews. However, these numbers are starting to increase. I know from UFI members and my own company that the Shanghai shows are very active again.”

The news is the same at RX Greater Chinawhich organizes approximately 70 live events per year in sectors ranging from automotive to healthcare to retail, bringing together 30,000 exhibitors and over a million visitors from China and abroad.

“RX now welcomes foreign exhibitors and visitors back to China, while bringing Chinese companies to key overseas markets,” Back eye, RX Global President for Asia Pacific said. There is strong interest from Chinese companies looking to expand their market in ASEAN countries. That is why we recently launched the Automotive Manufacturing Technology and Materials Exhibition (AMTS) in Indonesia. In the second half of this year, we are also planning to launch WEPACK ASEAN in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. These measures will promote the recovery of international trade after three years of the epidemic, which is very important for China-based exporters and the country’s overall economic recovery.

“At our RX China events, I see a lot of confidence, customers are able to do business face-to-face again and the feedback is very positive and encouraging,” he added. “It’s great to see so many happy and enthusiastic faces at the show. We’re back to what we do best: growing businesses.”
