Census and CEIR Index Predict Where Industrial Recovery Lies

DALLAS—TheExhibition Industry Census 2023 from the Exhibition Industry Research Center (CARS) details the number of events and size of U.S. business-to-business exhibitions that took place in 2019.

The 130-page report presents the highest metrics for trade shows before COVID. In the years since, the industry has struggled to recover, which was recently releasedCARS Index 2023 Forecasts for next year show that the economic recovery is expected to be strongest in countries where it will be most intense.

The new Census report documents event activity for the continental United States and Hawaii, as well as the top 50 U.S. cities. These rankings are based on four criteria: number of events; net floor space (NSF); number of attendees; and, for the first time, a composite index for net floor space (NSF) and number of attendees. The composite index is intended to provide a more comprehensive picture of an event’s size and economic impact.

Among the datasets, the census looks in detail at location type, monthly activity and even the distribution of measurements across each of the 14 industrial sectors and their corresponding subsectors.
