CTA Announces Technology as the Eighth Pillar of Humanity

CHICAGO — The Consumer Technology Association (CTA) will focus on how technology can have a fundamental impact on human security at its annual conference THESE trade show. Thanks to his work and partnership with the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security and the World Academy of Arts and SciencesCTA announced that technology will be the eighth pillar of the Human Security for All campaign.

“At CES 2023, we highlighted the partnership and theme in three key areas. We wanted to make sure that we highlighted all of the exhibitors on our show floor who were developing amazing technologies that aligned with each pillar of human security,” said Gary Shapiro, CTA’s president and CEO. “We announced the partnership on our main stage at CES 2023, but we informed our exhibitors in advance of the theme and encouraged them to showcase how their work and technology aligned with the theme and talk about the good that you do. We also integrated it into our conference programming and keynotes and made sure that conversation was really at the forefront of that programming.” We have also highlighted human security through our Innovation Awards program, including creating a new category focused on human security, which has helped to highlight products that might not have been discovered otherwise, such as blockchain voting technology that supports political security and products that address food waste.

The other pillars of the campaign are economics, environment, food, health, politics, personal and community security, and the addition of technology underscores the critical role it can play in improving the human experience and its importance in development, solving challenges and closing the investment gap in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

“Technological innovations have the power to address and even solve some of the world’s greatest challenges, from access to clean water and air to food insecurity, health care and education. Access to technology improves the human experience. It is essential to development and can help close the investment gap as we work to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Ultimately, technology is a key enabler of the creative solutions that are transforming our world today and will do so even more in the future,” said Shapiro.

CES, the world’s largest technology trade show, will feature a program of conferences and exhibitions focused on technology and innovation that addresses the biggest challenges facing the world today. Entrepreneurship and technology that addresses these challenges will be recognized in the Innovation Awards, which have seen a 40% increase in applications in 2024 compared to 2023.

“At CES 2024, you’ll see technology that can solve the world’s biggest challenges be a major theme throughout the show. Keep an eye out for some of our core exhibit areas, like automotive and mobility and augmented reality/virtual reality, that are helping people stay more connected and engaged, as well as emerging areas, including food tech and health tech,” Shapiro said. “Additionally, look for technologies, including advancements in AI, that are driving sustainability and accessibility throughout the show floor.”

CES will take place from January 9 to 12, 2024 in Las Vegas.
