LAS VEGAS— Resorts World Las Vegas announced that it is now officially powered by 100% renewable energy in partnership with NV Energy. Since opening in 2021, the resort has reduced its water and energy consumption by more than 30%, in line with industry standards, and uses dynamic building management systems to monitor and optimize energy and water consumption.
The LEED Gold-certified property has been committed to sustainability throughout its design and construction process, and by partnering with NV Energy, Resorts World provides benefits to the local community, including job creation and ground rent payments.
Resorts World followed strict standards in the green building industry and ensured that the building’s construction was also sustainable, with over 80% of waste and debris, by weight, diverted from landfills. A large-scale solar array project with ample battery storage was required to cover the resort’s solar power needs, and with the Nevada desert being blessed with plenty of flat, open terrain, the resort found an ideal location for solar farms.

Construction and supply chain delays caused some challenges, but Resorts World continued its commitment to sustainability amid fluctuating raw material costs and a more volatile solar market post-pandemic.
But Resorts World isn’t just focused on renewable energy. As part of another area of sustainability, the team separates all of the resort’s food waste before it’s sent to local farms to be turned into animal feed, and it partners with food donation programs, which convention and event organizers can participate in.
Now that the resort has reached its goal of being powered by 100 percent renewable energy, it hopes to continue its optimization and efficiency efforts, particularly around water-intensive uses like evaporative cooling, irrigation and water and pool features on the property.

Considering the entire destination, thanks to conservation efforts, the Las Vegas community’s per capita water consumption decreased by 47% between 2020 and 2022stations using only 5% of the valley’s water supplyand 24% of Nevada EnergMy energy comes from renewable resources. THE The MGM Resorts Mega Solar Array produces up to 90% of MGM Resorts Las Vegas’ daytime electricity needs, covering 65 million square feet of buildings spread over 13 propertiesand 100% of the electricity used at the Venetian comes from renewable sources, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. Other robust initiatives by Las Vegas properties have included food donations, diverting waste from landfills and using energy-efficient LED lighting.
