Beijing Enters The Spotlight With Cncc-Ii

Beijing enters the spotlight with CNCC-II

BEIJING – At the crossroads of the traditional and the new, Beijing is comprised of both ancient and modern architecture and ranked as the fourth most competitive city in the world – after Paris, New York and Singapore – by GainingEdge International Conference Destination Competitiveness Index 2021.

Beijing, home to seven World Heritage Sites and the world’s first capital city to have a UNESCO Global Geopark, has entered the modern era with the planned opening of the China National Convention Center Phase II (“CNCC-II”) in 2025. Located in the Olympic Green Zone at the northern end of Beijing’s central axis, and the main media center (MMC) for the Beijing 2022 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the convention center offers an impressive 4,600,000 square feet of gross exhibition space and just over 2,900,000 square feet of flexible, multifunctional meeting and event space.

Once completed, the CNCC-II main building will be consolidated within the existing facilities that include the main convention center, high-end luxury hotels, a shopping mall and a commercial office building, all equipped with the latest technological advances.

Since its opening in 2019, CNCC-II has been adhering to its core concept of “international vision, global resources, technological progress and sustainability”. With the national goal of achieving low-carbon, environmentally friendly and green transformation, this purpose-built convention center is built in accordance with LEED V3 Platinum standard and GBES 3-Star System Green Building standard. But this convention center takes center stage with its green transportation system, electromechanical system energy conservation, renewable resource utilization and intelligent energy management.

New luxury brand hotels

Last year, Beijing North Star Group, the developer of CNCC-II, signed an agreement to develop the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Beijing, North and the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel, which will be added to the CNCC-II convention complex.

“North Star Group attaches great importance to this cooperation with two brands and I believe that both parties will be able to further strengthen our brand interaction, increase market visibility and open the door to new business opportunities while improving the CNCC-II complex project,” said Li Weidong, Chairman of Beijing North Star Group.

Mao Yibing, President of Marriott International Group for Greater China, looks forward to a partnership with North Star Group that will lead to joint brand promotion, resource integration and management innovation.

The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North, located in the CNCC-II complex, will be the third hotel of the century-old luxury Ritz Carlton hotel chain in Beijing, while the Beijing Marriott Marquis Hotel will be the first in the capital of the People’s Republic of China. Both hotels will welcome groups in 2026, together offering 953 additional first-class rooms for international business travelers and MICE events, both from China and abroad.

The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, North will feature 282 guestrooms and suites, six restaurants, a lobby bar, all-day dining, a Ritz Carlton Executive Lounge, a boardroom and four meeting rooms. The health and recreation center will include an indoor pool, gym and spa.

The Beijing Marriott Marquis hotel will feature 671 guest rooms and suites, six restaurants and just over 35,000 square feet of meeting space.

The main and commercial buildings of CNCC-II were designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Christian de Portzamparc, and the three-story Chinese-style roof garden is designed by Xue Lingen, the Chinese heritage designer whose representative works include the Astor Court located at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
