— Great development prospects
The Vietnamese economy is in a phase of rapid growth. Vietnamese GDP growth reached 7% in 2019 and is expected to reach 6.9% in 2024. Whether it is the free trade agreement concluded with the EU at the end of 2015 or the agreement of Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership, it will certainly encourage Vietnam to further open its market and increase its export opportunities.
The value of laboratory technology imports has increased by 60% since 2009, reaching US$400 million. Vietnam currently has more than 10,000 laboratories, of which 65% are invested by the government, 14% by foreign investors, 14% by public development funds and 7% by private institutions. Vietnam’s Ministry of Health plans to build 40 key laboratories. The dynamism of the economy is also reflected in the enormous commercial potential offered by the analytical, laboratory technology and biotechnology sectors.
Vietnam’s GDP outlook is optimistic and its development is better than that of other Southeast Asian countries. At the same time, although exports have slowed, they will remain at peaks of 14.1% and 13.1% in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Pharmaceutical industry:Vietnam has the fastest growing middle class in Asia, but rapid urbanization is accelerating aging and the risk of noncommunicable diseases. As a result, Vietnam has seen explosive growth in demand for high-quality medical products, medicines and innovative services. IQVIA forecasts that Vietnam’s pharmaceutical industry revenue will reach a compound annual growth rate of approximately 8% between 2019 and 2023. The market size is expected to reach $16.1 billion by 2026, with a growth rate annual compound of 11%. According to statistics, per capita pharmaceutical spending in Vietnam increased from US$9.85 in 2005 to US$22.25 in 2010, and is expected to reach US$163 by 2026. Vietnam is one of the largest pharmaceutical markets the fastest growing in the world.
Biotechnology:According to the plan, Vietnam aims to have at least 15 laboratories reaching the advanced level of laboratories in the ASEAN region and the world by 2025. Vietnam plans to be among the top ten biotechnology intelligent production services in Asia by 2030. Government initiatives such as Decision 429/QD-TT and Resolution 36-NQ/TW have laid the foundation for the strategic growth of biotechnology in agriculture, medicine, pharmaceuticals, industry and commerce.
Food industry:Vietnam’s food industry accounts for 19% of total manufacturing production. , has grown rapidly in recent years and is one of Vietnam’s largest export industries. As one of the world’s largest exporters of food and beverage products, including coffee, pepper, processed fish and cashew nuts, Vietnam is paying more and more attention to food safety and associated tests. The improvement in the quality of life of the population has also led the government to develop plans to strengthen food safety controls.
Chemical industry:Vietnam depends on imports of its main chemicals and has an increasing need for high-quality pre-chemicals, particularly for the production of fertilizers, plastic products, pharmaceuticals, paints and varnishes. According to the Ministry of Chemistry (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the total annual output of Vietnam’s chemical industry accounts for about 10-11% of the industry’s GDP, including pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, paints, printing inks, petrochemicals, basic chemicals, etc.; In 2018, the import volume reached 10 billion US dollars. Many refineries and petrochemical plants are currently in preparation.
Environmental monitoring:Vietnam’s environmental monitoring industry is gradually strengthening its pursuit of sustainable development. Investment opportunities in this area are driven by the demand for innovative environmental monitoring solutions.
Materials industry:Vietnam’s growing demand for infrastructure development has given great importance to the application and supply of materials in the fields of construction and manufacturing.
