market opportunity
Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 sets out strategic initiatives to reduce the country’s dependence on oil and develop public service sectors such as infrastructure, entertainment, tourism and education. The country’s planned and ongoing construction projects are worth US$1.5 trillion, and investment in residential and commercial project construction alone is expected to be approximately US$10.7 billion. Under the Ministry of Housing’s ESKAN project, the government plans to build 500,000 housing units. Additionally, the government has allocated a budget to build 1,500,000 homes over the next five years, which will drive a surge in interior design services and renovations across the country.
In order to realize Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” and promote the diversified development of the Saudi economy, the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund (PIF) launched five ultra-large project plans a few years ago and developed and constructed a series of sub-projects, collectively referred to as “giga projects.” These 5 very large projects include:
1. Red Sea Project: This project is located on the west coast of Saudi Arabia and is expected to cover an area of 28,000 square kilometers. It has a series of natural marine wonders and historical and cultural sites. For this project, PIF has signed more than 1,000 contracts so far, with a value of more than 6.7 billion US dollars; in 2030 When completed, the site will have 8,000 rooms in more than 50 hotels, as well as 1,000 residences.
2. Neom project: Once completed, the $500 billion Neom project will become a large-scale sustainable city of the future. Set to launch on the Red Sea in 2025, it will be the largest and most ambitious smart city in the Kingdom and the world. Backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and international investors, the futuristic, fully digital city is expected to contribute $100 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030.
3. Qiddiya Project: Upon completion, visitors will have access to more than 300 entertainment and educational facilities, a 20,000-seat cliff stadium, an 18,000-seat indoor stadium, an aquatic center, sports center, and a 2,000-seat Seating for performing arts theaters and movie theaters.
4.Roshn Project: This project was launched in 2020 to promote the development of Saudi real estate and infrastructure industries, achieve the goal of increasing the home ownership rate of Saudi citizens to 70% by 2030, and improve the quality of life of Saudi citizens.
5. Diriyah project: Diriyah is widely considered to be the birthplace of Saudi Arabia and is of great historical and cultural significance to Saudi Arabia; the project is expected to cost US$6.3 billion to promote the development of Saudi tourism and cultural industries. , attracting 27 million tourists every year.
After the completion of these five ultra-large projects, Saudi Arabia will add a large number of construction facilities and tourism projects, which will provide a good platform for Chinese related enterprises to enter Saudi Arabia.
Rising number of retail, commercial and hotel real estate projects and rising demand for residential properties, coupled with government initiatives to develop infrastructure, are expected to drive the Saudi hospitality and interior design market. For example, large-scale projects such as the Red Sea Development and King Abdullah Economic City have attracted a variety of international and regional interior design and decoration designers to work on these projects. At the same time, according to data, the interior design market size in Saudi Arabia is expected to grow from US$3.72 billion in 2023 to US$5.94 billion in 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of 9.80% during the forecast period (2023-2028). The home furnishing market size is estimated at USD 7.22 billion in 2023 and is expected to reach USD 10.2 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 7.15% during the forecast period (2023-2028).
The Saudi government is using its grand plans, abundant capital, and firm confidence to maximize the role of infrastructure construction projects in stimulating the social economy, which has brought unlimited opportunities for Chinese hotel and interior decoration companies to enter Saudi Arabia.
