Asia’s flagship environmental protection exhibition embraces trends and moves into the future
As the world’s second largest and Asia’s flagship environmental exhibition after the parent exhibition IFAT in Munich, the 26th China Environmental Expo IE expo China 2025 will be held from April 21 to 23, 2025 with a total area of 200,000 square meters. The rice display scale continues to be held at the Shanghai New International Expo Center.
In 2023, my country’s new energy vehicle production and sales will exceed 10 million units. With the explosive growth of the new energy vehicle industry, the “retirement wave” of power batteries has also followed, driving the battery recycling market to gradually heat up. Generally speaking, the service life of power batteries is about 5-8 years, and the effective life is 4-6 years. It is expected that by 2030, as a large number of automobile power batteries enter the recycling stage, China’s lithium-ion battery recycling volume will reach 6.028 million tons, and the market size is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan. In addition, as energy storage plays an increasingly important role in the global energy sector, battery energy storage capacity will increase significantly in the future. It is expected that by 2030, the annual installation volume of battery energy storage systems will exceed 400GWh, which is equivalent to ten times the current annual newly installed capacity. Retired batteries can be downgraded and used in backup power, two-wheeled vehicles, small energy storage and other scenarios. Batteries that cannot be recycled can be recycled, and valuable metal materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel can be extracted through crushing and recycling. If not properly disposed of, these discarded batteries may cause serious pollution to the environment. Heavy metals are valuable resources, so establishing an efficient, safe and environmentally friendly battery recycling and processing industry will give China a key advantage in the competition for critical minerals and green transition.
