market background
The Polish compact fluorescent lamp market was established in 1992, when Philips Lighting Poland began selling CFLs in the country. Prior to this, the number of imported compact fluorescent lamps sold in Poland was negligible. At that time, the cost of a compact fluorescent lamp retailed at about 38 zlotys (US$15.14), while an incandescent lamp cost only 1.00 zloty (US$0.40). Although the large-scale promotion of CFLs was a very large investment for Polish consumers, due to state subsidies and the popularization of environmental awareness among the people, CFLs began to appear in new hypermarkets and supermarkets as well as home centers, and gradually became popular among users. By 2013, the sales of CFLs had reached 3 billion US dollars.
