Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 plan outlines strategic initiatives aimed at reducing the country’s dependence on oil and developing public service sectors such as infrastructure, entertainment, tourism and education. Planned and ongoing construction projects in the country amount to $1.5 trillion, with investments in residential and commercial construction alone expected to amount to about $10.7 billion. Saudi Arabia plans to add 250,000 hotel rooms by 2030, while the private sector has signed contracts to build 75,000 hotel rooms.
In order to realize Saudi Arabia’s “Vision 2030” and promote the diversified development of the Saudi economy, the Saudi Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) launched five megaproject plans a few years ago and developed and built a series of sub-projects, collectively referred to as “gigaprojects”. These 5 megaprojects include:
1. Red Sea Project: This project is located on the west coast of Saudi Arabia and is expected to cover an area of 28,000 square kilometers. It includes a series of natural marine wonders and historical and cultural sites. More than 1,000 contracts have been signed to date, worth more than US$6.7 billion by 2030. Once completed, the site will have 8,000 rooms in more than 50 hotels, as well as 1,000 residences.
2. Neom Project: Once completed, the $500 billion Neom project will become the sustainable city of the future on a grand scale. Set to launch on the Red Sea in 2025, it is the largest and most ambitious smart city in the Kingdom and the world. Backed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and international investors, this futuristic, fully digital city is expected to contribute $100 billion to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2030.
3. Qiddiya Project: Once completed, visitors will have access to more than 300 entertainment and educational facilities, a 20,000-seat cliff stadium, an 18,000-seat indoor stadium, an aquatic center, a sports center and a 2,000-seat performance hall, art theaters and cinemas.
4. Roshn Project: This project was launched in 2020 to promote the development of the Saudi real estate and infrastructure sectors, achieve the goal of increasing the home ownership rate of Saudi citizens to 70% by 2030, and improve the quality of life of Saudi citizens.
5. Diriyah Project: Diriyah is widely regarded as the birthplace of Saudi Arabia and holds great historical and cultural significance for Saudi Arabia; the project is expected to cost US$6.3 billion to promote the development of Saudi tourism and cultural industries. 27 million tourists each year.
After the completion of these five mega projects, Saudi Arabia will add a large number of hotel projects, which will provide a good platform for China-related companies to enter the Saudi hotel market.
As the hospitality industry grows, the demand for high-quality hotel supplies continues to increase. The Middle East and North Africa hotel supplies market is expected to reach $2 billion by 2024, with Saudi Arabia accounting for a significant share.
More and more Chinese hotel industries are entering the Saudi market!
- Hotel market size:The Saudi Arabian hotel market has been growing rapidly in recent years and is expected to reach billions of dollars by 2025. Chinese companies have quickly taken a place in this market thanks to high-quality services and management.
