Exhibition industry veteran wins Nevada state primary

LAS VEGAS— Julie Pazina, CEM-AP, national sales manager for Edlen Electrical Exhibition Services, won the primary for an open seat in Nevada State Senate District 12 on June 14. Pazina, who had the support of the Democratic Party, defeated her Democratic opponent with 58 percent of the vote.

“I am grateful that the voters of the 12th Senate District have placed their trust in me to represent them in the general election,” Pazina said. “As a business leader, I know what it takes to get our economy back on track. I will work hard to create more good-paying jobs, expand our tourism footprint and diversify our economy.”

Based in Las Vegas, family-owned Edlen has grown into the nation’s largest independent provider of temporary services for trade shows, conventions and special events. Pazina, who also serves as vice chair of the Nevada Tourism Commission and past president of the Las Vegas Hospitality Association, pledged during her campaign to advocate for Nevada’s working families and diversify the state’s economy.

“As Vice Chair of the Tourism Commission and former President of the Las Vegas Hospitality Association, Julie knows what it will take to help Nevada families and small businesses get back on track,” said Majority Leader Nicole Cannizzaro. She continued, “Julie is a fighter who will always put Nevadans first. We can count on her to defend public education, create good jobs across Nevada, and lower health care costs for all.”

“Working in the hospitality industry, I know firsthand how hard Nevada families have been hit by the pandemic,” Pazina said in a statement. “In the State Senate, I will stand up for Nevada’s working families and ensure we come back stronger. … I will also ensure our schools are well-funded and health care is more affordable for all Nevadans. I am ready to get to work and earn the support of my neighbors across the district.”

Pazina believes her work in the trade show industry would help her serve in the state Senate. “As far as industry experience, advocacy is extremely important. It’s also important to have elected officials who are in a position to decide on legislation affecting the tourism and trade show industry who truly understand the industry and its nuances and how legislation can affect the industry as it recovers. The largest industry in Nevada revolves around tourism and hospitality and it’s important to have representation.”
