COVID-19 travel restrictions lifted in Canada as of October 1

OTTOWA — The Canadian government has announced the elimination of all COVID-19 Entry restrictions effective October 1.

Travellers to Canada, regardless of citizenship, will no longer be required to submit public health information through the ArriveCAN app or website, provide proof of vaccination, undergo pre- or on-arrival testing, quarantine or isolate due to COVID, or report symptoms upon arrival in Canada. Pre-entry testing for fully vaccinated travellers was no longer required as of April 1, 2022.

“Ottawa is doing the right thing by lifting the vaccination and testing requirements for entry into Canada, which will provide a substantial boost to its economy,” said Tori Emerson Barnes, executive vice president of public affairs and policy for the U.S. Travel Association. “Washington should follow suit by immediately suspending proof of vaccination for qualified visitors from Canada and other countries, given the widespread availability of effective COVID boosters and therapies. Canada is the number one source of international travelers to the U.S., and we should take all necessary steps to accelerate the recovery of this vital market.”

Within the country’s borders, restrictions are also being lifted for domestic travellers. Masks are no longer required on planes and trains by Transport Canada, and restrictions are no longer in effect. A Health screening for air or train travel. Travelers are still encouraged to wear masks while traveling and not travel if they have symptoms of COVID-19 or test positive for the virus.

American News It has been reported that the lifting of restrictions in Canada is a result of the country’s high vaccination rates and low numbers of hospitalizations and deaths from the virus.

“Canada’s travel measures have helped mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on travellers and transportation workers and have helped keep communities safe,” said Canada’s Minister of Transport, the Honourable Omar Alghabra. “Thanks to Canadians who rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated, we are able to take this important step toward easing measures and getting back to normal.”

As of October 1, travellers who entered Canada within 14 days before restrictions were lifted will not be required to complete the remainder of their quarantine or testing.
